From STAFF REPORTS

While Westridge has clearly established itself as the Prep League’s team to beat, there is no question that Poly is the most balanced.

The Tigers rely very heavily on Allison Martinez and Makana Meyer and that goes a long way.

But the Panthers get something every night from Ella Mao, Zoey Mao, Halston Harper, Alexis Pappachan, Natalie Clark and Kate Salembier, just to name a few.

And that versatility led Poly to a 5-set road win over Chadwick in a Prep League contest on Tuesday.

The Panthers earned a 25-15, 20-25, 23-25, 25-21, 15-5 victory and they hold tight to the second place spot in the Prep League.

Poly is just one-half a game back of Westridge and get a second shot at the Tigers on October 23 at home.

Ella Mao led the way with 17 kills, 5 aces.

Alexis Pappachan chipped in with 10 kills.

Halston Harper had 9 kills, Natalie Clark added 8 kills and Kate Salembier had 5 kills.

Zoey Mao added 53 assists and 7 kills, while Lauren Kidman finished with 46 assists.

The Panthers will host Mayfield Thursday at 4:30.

Poly defeated the Cubs on September 5 in a five-set thriller.

Quotable:

Poly sophomore Ella Mao: “The win against Chadwick continued to improve ourselves as a team. Chadwick, a team that had always been competitive, had great defense and was able to return many of the balls we tried to put down. We were able to steady ourselves and keep on pushing throughout the game. This match was a good experience on the road and will help us reach our future potential.”

Prep League:
Westridge (11-1 overall, 6-0 in league)
Poly (15-3, 6-1)
Mayfield (3-5, 3-2)
Flintridge Prep (6-2, 2-2)
Chadwick (6-5, 2-3)
Rio Hondo Prep (9-6. 1-6)
Firebaugh (0-7, 0-5)
