For the second time in five days, the Maranatha offense was shut down.

On a short week, the Minutemen were able to muster just 10 yards rushing, and Poly was able to keep them out of the end zone.

The Panthers defeated the Minutemen, 29-0, in a Thursday night nonleague showdown between two Pasadena schools.

Cameron McFarlane scored on runs of 3, and 13 yards, respectively, and the Panthers were never challenged.

Poly’s defense held Maranatha to 97 yards of total offense.

Maranatha’s star quarterback Kwon Peterson was held to 87 yards passing.

He completed 9 of 14 passes and for the second consecutive week, Peterson and his offense were unable to find pay dirt.

Maranatha scored 112 points in their first three games, but the Minutemen have scored just 10 total points in their last 12 quarters.

Awan Parker led MHS with 6 catches for 67 yards, and he also picked off a pass on defense.

McFarlane led all rushers with 72 yards on 15 carries, including the two scores.

Graham Olson carried the ball 7 times for 37 yards, including a 5-yard TD run.

Olson also completed 6 of 7 passes for 64 yards.

Jackson Hayes rushed for 48 yards on six carries.

Franco Alonso and James Olson recovered Maranatha fumbles for the Panthers.

Poly will now enter their bye week before traveling to Boron on October 13.

Maranatha travels next Friday to Cerritos Valley Christian in the Olympic League opener for both schools.

Poly coach Chris Schmoke: “I was happy with the kids executing, especially when they got into the flow of the game. I was really proud of the effort. We have to work on our kicking game. Christian Henderson and Jackson Hayes did a great job of sticking with their (Maranatha’s) receivers.”

Maranatha coach Steve Bogan: “They (Poly) executed well, and they’re well coached. We had two offensive lineman out and that really affects the game. We were on a short week and it was tough. We need to get the ball to our playmakers in space.”

Poly running back Cameron McFarlane: “The defensive line put a lot of pressure on the quarterback. The offensive line worked so hard and it just flowed. It was beautiful today, but I’d like to see some urgency in practice.”

Poly quarterback Graham Olson: “We knew Kwon is good at rolling out and we knew we had to put pressure on him. Our offensive line has gotten better each game. I think we’re doing well, but there’s always room for improvement.”

Scoring:
Poly: Cameron McFarlane 3 run (Matt Queen kick)
Poly: Cameron McFarlane 13 run (Matt Queen kick)
Poly: Graham Olson 5 run (Matt Queen kick)
Poly: Christian Henderson 1 run (Kick Failed)
Poly: Safety (Ball Kicked Out Of End Zone)

Box Score:
Poly: 0-14-7-8-(29)
Maranatha: 0-0-0-0-(0)

Records: Poly (4-1-1); Maranatha (4-2)
