From STAFF REPORTS

Marshall continues to struggle, but the Eagles never go down without a battle.

Such was the case in their four-game loss to South El Monte.

The Eagles fell, 25-20, 26-24, 23-25 and 25-23 in a Mission Valley League slugfest.

Samantha James led Marshall with 19 kills and 13 digs.

Risejah Velasco added 14 kills, 17 digs and 5 aces.

Lyndsey Bailey had 6 blocks and Lilah Fontenot had 7 digs.

Marshall had 18 missed serves.

Marshall will host El Monte on Friday at 3:15.

Quotable:

Marshall senior Samantha James: “We have to cheer more after every point, not just after a big kill. We need our momentum to be more consistent.”

Marshall coach Sang Lee: “We take one step forward in one area but take a step back in others. It negates itself. Our digging has really improved and we are keeping the ball alive for lots of rallies. Our defense has improved a lot since the start of the year. But our serving is getting worse. We had 16 service errors, and if you looked at the score, we could have used many of those points today. The good news is that i think we still haven’t played our best volleyball yet this season. Hopefully, we will put all of the pieces together and have a signature match soon. This team only won three matches last season, and we are at 7 wins right now. We’re getting better.”
