This might sound harsh, but it’s true.
Ask anyone that plays Firebaugh in girls volleyball, and they’ll tell you it’s not only a waste of time and gas, but each coach knows they’d get a better battle with an inner-squad scrimmage.
Until the Falcons are out of the league in 2018, though, Prep League teams have to humor themselves and earn a couple of easy victories.
It also gives coaches the ability to get each of their players time and the chance to pad their stats.
Mayfield cruised by Firebaugh on Thursday by scores of 25-12, 25-1 and 25-12.
The Cubs (7-10, 6-2) continued to distance themselves from fourth-place Flintridge Prep with the victory.
Colleen Henderson led the way with 10 kills and 12 digs.
Audrey Bland added 7 kills, 2 aces and 2 blocks.
Alysse Urbach finished with 22 digs and 5 aces.
Sarah Tupy contributed 6 kills and 6 digs.
Ellie Watkins had 4 kills and 4 digs.
Mayfield will host Flintridge Prep on Tuesday at 5:30.
