While the Pasadena City College men’s cross country team finished sixth out of eight teams at the South Coast Conference Championships Friday, the Lancers learned their season will continue as they received an at-large berth to the Southern California Championships.
The Lancers, who took third place last year, scored 173 points and had only one runner reach the top 30 in Eduardo Urbina. The sophomore Urbina placed 29th (he was 18th as a freshman) with a time of 22:43.7 over the 4-mile course at Mt. San Antonio College. With 98 overall runners in the conference competing, Urbina was followed by freshman Dylan Che, who was 36th at 23:03.5. Sophomore Felipe Loera placed 50th at 23:57.6 and Trevor Abe was 52nd (24:02.5).
PCC’s other runners were bunched in the lower portion of the finishers with Alexis Arevalo leading that pack in 67th (24:43.9). Kevyan Duran (25:45, 78th), Antonio Alvarez (25:48, 79th), Adrian Zavala (27:09, 84th), Izaq Davolt (27:45, 88th), Colin Schwantner (28:04, 90th), and Julio Aguilar (29:52, 95th) rounded out the Lancers harriers.
Mt. San Antonio captured the SCC team title for the fifth straight season with Mounties’ runner Manuel Fernandez winning the individual crown at 20:26.2.
