Nobody is going to catch Flintridge Prep when it comes to the race for the Prep League championship.
The Rebels are 5-0 and have two less losses than anyone else in league.
But the importance of Wednesday’s 2-0 victory for Mayfield was they not only pulled ahead of the Panthers, they are just one-game back of second-place Westridge with a few games left to play.
That could be the difference between a home or away playoff game in the near future, if they were able to leapfrog the Tigers too.
Mayfield got first-half goals from Nadia O’Reilly and Emma Abdalla
Mayfield will host Firebaugh on Friday at 3:15 and Poly will travel to Firebaugh next Tuesday at 6 p.m.
