From STAFF REPORTS
For the Flintridge Prep players and coaches, they are obviously and rightfully focused on each game in front of them.
For the area’s sports fans, though, we’re looking forward to a pair of games starting this weekend between the Rebels and their arch rivals at Poly.
But for now, Prep used 14 points from senior Majeed Ismail and they cruised by Rio Hondo Prep, 62-34, in a Prep League contest on Tuesday evening.
Nick Davis had 12 points and John Lytle added 8 for the Rebels.
Bryant Flores led the Kares with 14 points and Martin Chang added 10.
Jonathan Le and AJ Nicassio both scored 7 points apiece for the Rebels.
Prep will travel to Chadwick on Friday night and then host Poly 24 hours later in a battle of the Prep League’s only two unbeaten (in league games).
After losing nine games in a row, Flintridge Prep has won 7 of their last 8 games, including all four of their Prep League games.
Quotable:
Flintridge Prep senior Majeed Ismail: “On offense, I feel a lot of the time we rush the ball inside and we need to stay composed. With nine new varsity players, it took a few games to figure out our chemistry. Off the court, we’re really good friends and getting closer. We had a game plan going in (Tuesday night vs Rio Hondo Prep), and we held him (Mikey Tsogt) to one point. Our depth is huge for us. Even when we make substitutions, they’re prepared to do their jobs just as well. As a team, we could pass the ball better. For me, I could improve on knowing when to attack and on my decision making.”
