It wasn’t the result they wanted, but St. Francis showed positive signs in their 2018 season opener on Saturday of the Easton Tournament.
West Ranch, behind 5 RBIs, including a grand slam from Will Chambers defeated the Golden Knights, 10-5.
St. Francis’ bats were alive, though, and they had 5 players with at least one hit and three separate Golden Knights drove in runs.
Senior Christian Muro was 3-4 with two runs scored.
Sophomore Matthew Odom was 2-2 with a double, two walks, two runs and one RBI.
Junior Tyler Quintero was 2-4, with a double and 2 RBI.
Sophomore Mikey Kane was 2-3 with a double.
Aaron Treloar went 1 for 4 and drove in a run.
Hayden Byrnes was saddled with the loss.
The senior went 3 innings and allowed 5 runs, but only 2 were earned.
Byrnes did walk 6 batters and struck out one.
Trent Bird earned the victory for West Ranch by going 5 innings, allowing 4 runs (3 earned) and striking out 6.
St. Francis will travel to Oxnard on Tuesday to take on Rio Mesa at 3.
