The Eddie McKiernan era began with a victory Saturday in the season opener for La Salle.
The Lancers got 6 strong innings from starter Landon Smith, who surrendered 2 unearned runs on 3 hits and struck out out 6 Tigers batters.
Smith threw 71 pitches and didn’t walk a batter.
Victor Scalzo’s eighth-inning double scored Ethan Patrick and Brennan Mace and turned out to be the game winner.
Jeff Daley went a successful seventh and eighth innings on 27 pitches and picked up the win after keeping South Pasadena scoreless on two hits.
Daley induced three consecutive ground balls in the eighth to close out the Tigers.
Mark Daley, Jeff’s younger (sophomore) brother had an RBI double for the Lancers.
Ethan Patrick got off to a solid start in his senior campaign, going 2 for 4 with a run scored and a stolen base.
La Salle won’t play again until Friday, when they travel to Temple City at 3:15.
