Winning 20 consecutive games in any sport is an incredible accomplishment.
For the Flintridge Prep girls soccer program, that 20th win meant a CIF-SS Division 3 championship.
It didn’t come as easily as the 19 before it, and it shouldn’t.
They were fighting for the school’s first CIF championship in girls soccer and had to go through the No. 1 seed to get to the mountain top.
And despite trailing for most of the first half, Flintridge Prep scored three unanswered goals and defeated Pacifica of Garden Grove, 3-1, on Saturday at Warren High School.
After an early Alexa Riddle score for Pacifica, Flintridge Prep goalie Lindsey Uteda shut the Mariners out for north of 65 minutes to clinch the championship.
Helen Schaefer’s first-half goal got the Rebels even at the break.
Freshman Makenna Dominguez scored a pair of second-half goals and the rest is literally history for Flintridge Prep.
Prep will find out Sunday who they’ll face this coming Tuesday in the CIF Southern California Regionals.
Arielle Guzman assisted on one goal for the Rebels.
