Flintridge Prep succeeded one week ago in knocking off the CIF-SS Division 3A top seed from Oxford Academy.
To win their second CIF title in three years, Flintridge Prep would have to get by the No. 2 seed, Beverly Hills, as well.
And despite a close game throughout and a valiant effort, Prep fell to Beverly Hills, 50-46, Saturday night at Roosevelt High School in Ontario.
Kaitlyn Chen led the Rebels as she’s done all season.
The Prep sophomore had a team-high 19 points, including a 3-point bucket that pulled Prep to within 47-46 with 20 seconds left.
But it wasn’t quite good enough because of the stellar play of the Normans’ Chantal Moawad.
The 6-foot-2 sophomore forward finished with 14 points and a game-high 25 rebounds en route to the CIF championship.
Moawad also hit two free-throw attempts after Chen’s 3-pointer to extend the Beverly Hills lead to 49-46
The Normans (25-5) victory snapped the Rebels 18-game win streak.
Sofia Gonzalez pitched in 13 points for the Rebels.
The loss will sting for a bit, but there is everything to be proud of and even more to look forward to, because Prep’s most prominent players are underclassmen.
Prep will find out its CIF-State playoff first-round opponent on Sunday, and you can see the brackets by going to www.cifss.org
