Poly has to be happy with its start under first-year coach Mack Paciorek.
The Panthers have won their first four games in the 2018 baseball season.
Poly used a solid outing on the mound from Van Fichtner and the Panthers defeated Marshall, 6-3, Monday in the Dave Moore Classic.
Fichtner earned the victory, going 5 innings, and allowing just one hit and two runs.
Franco Alonso closed out the Eagles by going a scoreless seventh inning and striking out two.
Marshall’s offense was able to muster up three runs on three hits.
Diego Zambrana doubled, scored once and drove in a run for the Eagles.
Alex Chew was saddled with the loss after going 4 1/3 innings and surrendering 6 runs (five earned) on 8 hits.
Chew walked five batters and struck out four.
Poly finished with 9 hits and were highlighted by Cameron McFarlane’s effort.
McFarlane went 2 for 2 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Ryan Clayton had a great day, going 3 for 3, scoring once and driving in one run.
Along with earning the save, Franco Alonso picked up an RBI on a sac fly.
Marshall will travel to Sierra Vista today (Tuesday) at 3:15.
Poly will also be in action today at Monrovia at 3:15.
