Vivian Wheeler had a memorable role in Poly’s mercy-rule (13-3) victory over their rivals from Flintridge Prep in 6 innings on Thursday.
The Panthers’ junior went 3 for 4 with three runs scored and she drove in three as Poly opened Prep League play with a win.
Brennah Bronk earned the victory in the circle.
Bronk allowed 3 runs, but none were earned.
She surrendered three hits in four innings, walked three and struck out four Rebels’ batters to improve to 2-2.
Elyse Chan went the final two innings for Poly.
Chan didn’t allow a hit, walked two and struck out three.
Poly’s offense scored in each of the six innings they had a chance, and took a 7-0 lead after two innings.
Ella Cornwell had a pair of hits, walked twice and scored two runs.
Bronk helped her own cause with a hit, two walks, a sac fly and two runs scored.
Katie Huntsman collected her first hit of the season and Maddy Ruedaflores got her second base hit of the 2018 season.
Prep goes on their break and won’t play again until Mach 27 when the Rebels travel to Firebaugh.
Poly will host Alverno today (Friday) at 3:30 in a nonleague game.
