From STAFF REPORTS

There is no question the Muir baseball program is moving forward and in the right direction behind first-year coach Adonis Harrison.

That said, though, the Mustangs will want to put Monday’s 8-0 Pacific League setback behind them as soon as possible.

Arcadia pitcher Caden Ross threw a one-hit shutout and allowed just a fourth-inning infield single to Muir junior Aryonis Harrison.

Ross has yet to allow a run in 2018.

He walked none and struck out six on 69 pitches to improve to 4-0.

Arcadia (12-0) is ranked fifth in the state by MaxPreps and they looked the part.

Dominick Tello went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and a pair of RBIs.

Tim Van Kirk also collected two hits, scored one and drove in another.

Andrew Scannell went 2 for 3 and scored twice.

Jacob Lopez, Chase Pedersen and Jeffrey Castillo each drove in a run for the Apaches.

Valente Vera got the loss after allowing six runs on seven hits.

Vera walked four and struck out three, and to his credit, just one of those six runs were earned.

The Mustangs defense committed five errors that cost them five runs.

Tyquise Soloman went 1 2/3 innings for Muir, allowing two runs on three hits and walking one.

Muir will host Arcadia Wednesday at 3:30 and hope to hand the Apaches their first loss of 2018.

Quotable:

Arcadia coach Nick Lemas: (Regarding the challenges in the Pacific League) “Crescenta Valley looks good. It’s going to come down to whether a team can hold our offense down and give them a chance. Good pitching beats good offense. Muir took good swings and have guys with size and their pitcher had good velocity. Caden doesn’t throw hard, but he changes speeds and moves the ball well. It’s the name of his game. Muir could certainly fight for a playoff spot. Muir makes plays defensively, their catcher blocks and can throw the ball.”

Muir coach Adonis Harrison: “It’s all about turning the corner as a program. We are better, but we need to get better at the little things against solid programs like Arcadia. The kids will be fine. We need that loss to keep us hungry. We’ll play better on Wednesday. Their pitcher was good. He knew how to pitch by changing speeds and locations.”
