From STAFF REPORTS
If St. Francis is able to carry their momentum forward and compete for a CIF-SS playoff spot by succeeding in the Mission League, they’ll look back to this week as the launching pad.
Heading into the week, the Golden Knights were 1-9 overall, and 0-3 in Mission League play.
Over a 96 hour period, St. Francis won four consecutive St. Paul Tournament games.
They started Saturday with a 6-3 victory over Paramount, defeated San Pedro, 4-1, on Monday, and then rallied to outlast Los Altos, 4-3, on Tuesday.
That set up Wednesday’s showdown with Mary Star of the Sea and best yet, they had their ace, Chris Stamos on the mound.
Stamos didn’t disappoint, as the senior lefty went five innings, allowed just an unearned run on two hits in the Golden Knights’ 11-1 victory.
Stamos walked three and struck out eight to improve his personal record to 3-2..
Christian Muro and Tyler Quintero combined to drive in seven runs.
Muro went 3 for 4 with a triple, a run scored and four RBIs and Quintero doubled, drove in three runs and scored once.
Aaron Treloar went 2 for 3, and the senior scored twice and had an RBI.
Mikey Kane had two hits in four at-bats and he scored once.
Doyle Kane had one hit and drove in a pair of runs.
St. Francis out-hit Mary Star 10-3.
Ryne Lina, who picked up the loss on the mound, drove in the only Stars run of the game.
Lina went 4 2/3 innings, allowing 11 runs (six earned) on 10 hits.
Lina walked four and struck out five batters.
Aaron Hernandez went the final 1 1/3 on the mound for Mary Star and he was able to keep St. Francis off the scoreboard.
Pierre Biscaichipy pitched a scoreless final inning for the Golden Knights, despite walking two and allowing a hit.
The Golden Knights finished St. Paul Tournament play 4-1 and they’ve earned four days off to get healthy by their coach Aaron Dorlarque.
St. Francis will look to earn its first Mission League victory of the season when they travel to Crespi on Tuesday at 3:30.
Quotable:
St. Francis coach Aaron Dorlarque: “We’re throwing the ball across the plate and that’s big and is the difference. We’ve been playing defense and hitting all season. Chris Stamos has been our ace all year, and Hayden Byrnes and Aaron Treloar are throwing strikes and getting the mechanics on the field as opposed to being in the bullpen. We’re going to be as good as our pitching. It’s huge (the momentum) going forward. You need to be gritty to win Mission League games. We played a complete game today.”
