In their biggest test of the year, The Maranatha Minutemen prevailed 10-8 against rival prep school, Flintridge Prep, at Arcadia Park. The #1 doubles team of Matthew Leiva and Michael Mathews ensured the victory with a 7-6 (3) tiebreaker in the final match of the day.
#2 singles Billy Sun (6-3, 6-4) and #3 singles Ben Smith (6-2) contributed three big points on the day. Flintridge Prep went with an unconventional lineup, putting their star #1 and #2 singles players together as a doubles team, which meant Sun and Smith were pressured to bring home a few points to have any hope at a team victory.
#3 doubles Jake Scott and Tony Gao reunited forces on the day after playing most of last season together, and they did not disappoint. They took home two points with convincing 6-0, 6-1 wins.
MHS moves their record to 8-1 and will next play at home on Thursday in an Olympic League match against Whittier Christian.
