The Caltech women’s tennis team dominated visiting Occidental College, 9-0, in its home finale on Senior Day.
Every played won in straight sets and the double combinations went a combined 24-5 against the Tigers are first through third doubles. Senior Erin Wang (Auburn, Calif. / Del Oro) picked up a 6-3, 6-3 win in the final home match of career at fourth singles and fellow senior Sarah Cai (Livermore, Calif. / West Lafayette Jr./Sr.) won handily at sixth singles, 6-0, 6-2. Wang leads the Beavers this year with nine singles wins to her name.
Senior Vinci Chen (Austin, Texas / Westwood) teamed up with freshman Ankita Roychoudhury (Madison, Conn. / Daniel Hand) and handled the visitors at second doubles, 8-2, in the Beavers’ home finale. Cai teamed with junior Julia Reisler (Plano, Texas / Greenhill) at third doubles and earned the most routine doubles victory of the day, an 8-1 victory over their SCIAC rivals.
The seniors were honored prior to the match with a brief ceremony celebrating their accomplishments with the women’s tennis program.
Head Coach Mandy Gamble and the Beavers will wrap their season at California Lutheran University on Friday, Apr. 20 at 3:00pm.
