With a win Thursday at Mayfield, Poly had the chance to jump into the Prep League’s top spot.
And it looked good early on.
The Panthers got out to a four-run lead in the top of the third inning.
But unlike last week when Poly overcame an early deficit, Mayfield flipped the script.
The Cubs scored four fifth-inning runs and held off a feisty Poly team, 6-5, and keeps its advantage at the top of the Prep League’s pecking order.
Jaylin Domingo got the win after allowing one earned run on four hits. She walked two and struck out three.
Taylin Yankovich doubled, scored and collected three RBIs.
Alyssa Romo scored twice and had an RBI.
Malayna Domingo had two hits, scored and drove in a pair of runs, and she had eight assists and three putouts on defense.
For Poly, Tara Adarkar went 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles, she scored once and drove in a run.
Rory Xanders was 1 for 2 with two runs scored and drew a walk.
Jacqueline Garrity had an RBI double.
Brennah Bronk had one hit and an RBI and Megan Kelleher had one hit.
Poly will travel to Firebaugh on Tuesday and Mayfield will head to La Canada to take on a surging Flintridge Prep team on Tuesday as well.
