From Staff Reports:
Pasadena had won six consecutive Pacific League games heading into Saturday night’s second of two games this week with Burbank.
With a Saturday night road victory, PHS would have had a comfortable two-game lead with four games to play for the third spot and an automatic playoff berth.
But Andrew De La Torre had other thoughts.
The Burbank pitcher went all eight innings and allowed just a pair of second-inning runs.
De La Torre allowed four hits, walked two and struck out 13 PHS batters on 104 pitches.
Jacob Green was saddled with the loss, despite allowing just three runs over his 7 2/3 innings on the mound, and his 111 pitch count.
With the one-run loss, both Muir and Burbank are just one-game back of PHS, as each of the three have four regular season games remaining.
Adrian DePasquale had one hit and an RBI and David Banuelos had the other PHS RBI on Saturday night.
De La Torre stuck out eight of the nine Pasadena batters at least once.
And the Burbank junior fanned five of those nine twice.
Matt Porras and Oakley Spens had two hits and one RBI apiece for Burbank.
PHS will travel to Arcadia (21-0) on Tuesday at 3:30.
