Just when it looked like Mayfield had wrapped up the Prep League championship, a little drama on Thursday in another game gave Poly a chance to potentially win a share of the title.
Westridge, which entered their Prep League game with the Cubs 2-7 in league play, upset Mayfield, 8-6, on Thursday, and they still have two games to play.
Poly did their share in a 4-1, regular-season finale with Rio Hondo Prep to keep the pressure on Mayfield.
The Cubs (8-2) have a one-game lead over Poly (9-3) and they still have single games with Firebaugh (0-9) on Friday and finish Tuesday in a home game with Chadwick (8-3).
Back to Poly.
Bronk helped her own cause in the circle with a triple, run scored and an RBI.
Sarah Chinn was 1 for 3 with an RBI and run scored and Vivian Wheeler had one hit and a run scored.
Megan Kelleher finished 1 for 3 and scored once.
Elyse Chan drove in one run, Tara Adarkar singled and Rory Xanders made what her coach called ‘the catch of the century’ in center field.
