The ‘Cinderella’ season continues for Muir.

The Mustangs earned a 6-0 victory over a very talented Rancho Christian program for three main reasons.

First, Brian Love was nails on the mound.

Secondly, the Mustangs defense was incredible all game, and lastly, the boys from 1905 Lincoln Avenue used their speed to force the Eagles defense into rushing plays that resulted in three errors.

Love went all seven innings, and worked his way out of three or four jams.

It was nothing short of a masterful performance.

Love scattered six hits, walked two and struck out six against a Rancho Christian team averaging over 10 runs per game.

Amaris Harrison, Valente Vera and Aryonis Harrison made multiple plays each at shortstop, third base and center field, respectively, that kept the Eagles off the board.

Kevin Torres should not be overlooked, because the Mustangs’ big man dug out a number of balls in the dirt on throws to first base.

Aryonis Harrison went 1 for 1 with two walks, three stolen bases and the junior scored twice.

Vera was 1 for 2 with a walk, a stolen base and one run scored.

Davis Solis also collected a hit, had a stolen base and he scored once, and Ely Resendiz singled, scored and drove in a run.

Angel Lopez walked with the bases loaded to pick up an RBI for the Mustangs.

Keyshawn Spicer’s fielder’s choice scored two runs in the five-run sixth inning.

Emiliano Martinez was hit by pitch and scored once for Muir.

Colton Bulger got the loss for Rancho Christian.

Bulger allowed just four hits and none of the six runs were earned.

Bulger did walk five batters and struck out six, but his defense did very little to back him.

In a season that has seen Muir earn its first postseason appearance since the 1980’s, and now having won two playoff games, we have two more stats that make this even more sweet.

Rancho Christian entered Tuesday’s game with a 256-88 advantage over the Mustangs in runs scored, but were shut out by Love.

And lastly, the final stat.

Love finished the deal by getting Trevor Jones looking.

That’s the same Trevor Jones who’s hitting .526 with 40 hits, 40 runs scored and someone who had driven in 45 runs.

And even though Jones had doubled earlier off the left-field fence, Love was always one step ahead of the Eagles on Tuesday.

Muir will host El Rancho in the quarterfinal round.

The Dons (20-11) defeated Estancia, 4-1, on Tuesday, in their second-round contest.
