May 20, 2018, Sam Tobias Field, Garces Memorial High School, Bakersfield, CA –Tribe Lacrosse Boys High School claims the 2018 Pacific Lacrosse League Championship representing the best Club High School Lacrosse team from Southern California. Tribe Boys avenged their only loss defeating West Los Angeles Riptide Lacrosse Club 11-6.

After reaching the semi-finals in the past three seasons, Coach Rick Starratt and the Tribe Boys final broke through and reached the finals match and winning the championship against their arch rival. Tribe Lacrosse ended the season with a record of 13-1. Keys to the win were ball movement, communication and reducing turnovers. The Tribe Boys came out strong, scoring the first 2 goals, but Riptide would not be denied and came back quickly to tie it 2-2 at the end of the 1st quarter. The second quarter is where Tribe made their statement scoring 5 goals against Riptide’s 2 and ending the quarter up 7-4.

In the second half the Tribe boys took the field looking to start strong and close the game out. The team was led by the stellar play of the stout defense (Goalie Griffin Dilbeck and Long Poles – Andrew Pingry, Rhys McKinney, Nicholas Antsos and Henry Bryant) holding Riptide to 2 goals in the half. Meantime, the Tribe offense continued their paced offense scoring 4 more goals.

Overall Tribe’s offense was balanced with 7 players scoring the 11 goals (Jack Doloszycki(3), Antoine Moats(2), Michael “Duke” Yen (2), Winn Starratt(1), Atticus Moats(1), Ari Chew(1) and Joey David(1). Special kudos goes out to the veteran coaches Rick Starratt (10 years), John Doloszycki (9 years), Phil Chew and Daniel Yen (9 years).

Of special note is this year’s team consisted of a group of five players who have played together for nine seasons – Jack Doloszycki, Atticus Moats, Andrew Pingry, Winn Starratt, and Michael Yen.

In addition, Tribe will miss the 13 seniors – Garret Althen, Jesse Blackwell, Matthew Beaumont, Ari Chew, Jack Doloszycki, Micah Lopez, Atticus Moats, Samuel Mendoza, Andrew Pingry, August Smith, Grant Stanley, Winn Starratt. Congratulations Tribe Lacrosse on an amazing season!
