From STAFF REPORTS

It looks for the most part that the Prep League volleyball race is going to be a slugfest night in and night out.

And come playoff time, each of those programs will be the better for it.

On Tuesday night, Poly earned the match and season sweep over the visitors and reigning two-time champions from Westridge.

And while they won’t earn a three-peat, the Tigers refused to go down Tuesday night without a fight.

The Panthers won by scores of 25-19, 25-23 and 26-24.

Nicole Gibbs led Westridge with 13 kills and 15 digs.

Krystal Raymundo added 11 kills and an ace for the Tigers.

Westridge got 28 assists from Abby Yuhan and a pair of aces from Julia Cruz.

Ella Mao and Kate Salembier led the Poly offense with 10 kills apiece.

Zoey Mao added 19 assists and 5 aces.

Debbie Hong contributed 14 digs.

The Panthers are just one-game back of first-place Mayfield in the loss column.

The Cubs swept Providence in another Prep League match Tuesday and Flintridge Prep swept Rio Hondo Prep on the road.

Poly will travel to Providence on Thursday at 5:30, and Westridge hosts Chadwick on Friday at 5:30 in a pair of Prep League battles.

Records: Westridge (1-6 overall, 1-3 in league); Poly (6-3, 5-1)
