From Staff Reports:

Marshall’s sweep over winless Mountain View is what the Eagles were supposed to accomplish as they headed to school for their Friday afternoon Mission League match with the Vikings.

They earned a 25-16, 25-18 and 26-24 victory.

What wasn’t known or assumed is that with the win, the program is already tripled its win in league matches last year and matched their season win total from 2017 as of Friday.

Sophomore setter Bora Lim tallied 11 assists, 11 digs, and 3 kills.

Sophomore setter Malia Wilson added 14 assists, 6 digs, 3 aces, and 2 kills.

Senior outside hitter Risejah Velasco contributed 11 kills, 11 digs, and 1 ace.

Freshman middle blocker Kelaiyah Johnston added 5 kills.

Junior outside hitter Lilah Fontenot finished with 4 kills.

Senior libero North Steinbacher had 6 digs and 3 aces.

Marshall will travel to South El Monte on Monday at 3:15 for yet another Mission Valley League contest.

Quotable:

Marshall coach Sang Lee: “We stayed relevant in the playoff race with this win. It was important for us to finish this long week well. This team never stops competing, and we’re learning to play more of a controlled game. We’re limiting our own mistakes and our serving was accurate today. The girls deserve tons of credit for continuing to believe in themselves and each other.”

Marshall senior libero North Steinbacher: “Our serving and passing was more improved from the previous game. It was a great accomplishment because we played well and acted more like a team. Our goal is to continue the kind of performance we had today. We want to emphasize more of a team dynamic. We do want to win because we are competitive, and we want to show off our ability and how we work as a team.”

Records: Marshall (8-11 overall, 3-4 in league); Mountain View (0-15, 0-5)
