Accomplishments: Velasco, the Eagles two-year captain and four-year varsity letterman, is the heart of the Marshall volleyball program. The senior helped lead her young teammates to the school’s first CIF-SS playoff berth since 2009. Marshall swept Arroyo on Wednesday to officially earn the postseason spot and Velasco has paced Marshall all year. In the sweep, Velasco had 8 kills, 10 digs and 2 aces. She has team highs in kills (152), digs (198) and aces (39). More importantly, though, Velasco is someone second-year coach Sang Lee needed both as an athlete and leader to turn the program around.
