Cosette Balmy, a point guard on the 2018-19 Pasadena City College women’s basketball team, has been awarded this year’s Tiana #24 Scholarship.
Balmy, who played her prep ball at Ribet Academy and was born in Martinique, France, will receive a $950 award. The scholarship is in the name of former Lancers basketball star Tiana Sanders, a PCC Sports Hall of Fame inductee and a state coaches association Hall of Famer, who set the school’s single-season scoring record and was State Player of the Year in 1998-1999.
Sanders transferred on scholarship to the University of Nevada-Las Vegas and is now does motivational speaking and philanthropist work in Tennessee.
The scholarship was started in 2016 by Sanders through the PCC Foundation to go each year to a Lancers basketball player who exhibits strong sportsmanship and leadership skills, and performs well in the classroom and on the court.
