The Caltech women’s water polo team looks to build on last season’s record-tying three wins over six home games and five away games in 2017. Second-year head coach Jon Bonafede’s squad welcomes Penn State-Behrend on Tuesday, Mar. 7 in what has become an annual matchup and which will serve as the Beavers’ Orange Out, starting at 5 p.m. Caltech pulled out a close 12-10 win led by rising senior Mary Boyajian (Sun Valley, Calif. / Village Christian) and rookie sensation Brittany Percin (Moraga, Calif. / Stanford Online), who both scored four goals apiece.
With a long break following the home opener, the Beavers quickly commence SCIAC play, traveling to the Sagehens on Saturday, March 18. With just a few hours of rest, Caltech returns to Pasadena that same evening to host Macalester College at 5 p.m. looking to carry over the momentum of last year’s two-match sweep with an 18-13 win at Macalester and a 10-7 win at home.
Following the tough back-to-back, the Beavers travel to Concordia University Irvine on Tuesday, March 21 and host Chapman the next day at 4 p.m. Finally getting an extended rest with nearly a week off from competition, Caltech heads out to the University of Redlands on Wednesday, March 29 and settles into the alternating Wednesday-Saturday SCIAC schedule through the stretch run that consists of three home games in the final five.
The Beavers host California Lutheran University on Saturday, Apr. 1 at 11 a.m. and the University of La Verne on Wednesday, Apr. 5 at 4 p.m., with a road matchup at Whittier College on Saturday, Apr. 8 breaking up the home stand. Caltech will celebrate Senior Day in a rivalry matchup against Occidental College on Wednesday, Apr. 12 at 4 p.m. and conclude the first leg of conference round robin play at CMS on Saturday, Apr. 12. The season concludes with the SCIAC Championships, hosted by La Verne, on Friday, Apr. 19-Sunday, Apr. 21.
