Tina Kunzer-Murphy has been the AD at UNLV since January 1, 2014. She is the first alum to run the department, and currently guides the Rebel 450 student-athletes and head coaches. She has been a fixture in the southern Nevada sports community for more than four decades.
Upon being named the AD, she remarked “it’s a great thing to wake up every morning knowing that you get a chance to make a real difference at your alma mater in your own hometown”.
At UNLV she competed in both tennis and volleyball, earning her bachelor’s degree in physical education in 1975. She went on to earn a master’s degree in education in 1977.
From 2000-12, Kunzer-Murphy served as Executive Director of the Las Vegas Bowl. Under her leadership, the bowl game enjoyed six consecutive sellouts, from 2006-11, record-high TV ratings and team payouts, en route to elevating the Las Vegas Bowl into the national college football landscape.
She is married to former UNLV coach and local high school teacher and coach Greg Murphy.
Joining Kunzer-Murphy on the podium, preceding her talk, is Ron Zerbel, La Canada High head football coach. Zerbal is expected to bring a co-captain or two. Quarterbacks donate to the high school football program whose head coach speaks, and to the National Football Foundation.
