St. Francis played its first league match Tuesday evening after almost 20 years.
The Golden Knights will have to wait for their first win for another day.
Alemany took the 14-7 Mission League contest, but Golden Knights coach Brady Lowdermilk has his program improving.
Cole Marston had a solid effort in goal, blocking 19 shots.
St. Francis got goals from Elijah Havens, Aidan Marick, Cole Gabriel-Rebmann, Maclean Ireland and Peter Lakon.
“The varsity game was physical, hard fought and tenacious,” Lowdermilk said. “It was our first foray into the Mission League and I think we responded well. In a regulation pool, I think we might have a closer game than we did today. But, the teams showed a degree of tenacity and mental strength that proves they are ready to meet the challenges remaining on the schedule.”
St. Francis will next be in the pool Friday at Crespi at 3.
Said Lowdermilk: “The varsity team is looking forward to their service project tomorrow. They’ll be joining IMPACTO, an after school program for elementary students in Boyle Heights, in the afternoon and going to Mass at Dolores Mission Church in the evening.
In junior varsity action, Alemany claimed an 11-7 victory over the Golden Knights.
The JV game was equally physical. The team learned a lot during their tournament last weekend and were able to translate it into some success today. Fabrizio Mettimano, Luca Vitale, and Gabriel Lorenzana-Singson formed a strong unit on offense and defense.
