In two-plus years in the Angelus League, La Salle (4-2, 0-1) has yet to claim a victory.
Last week, St. Francis downed the Lancers, 38-28.
But if they were to get their first win in league play, beating undefeated Cathedral Friday night would be as good as any.
The Lancers matched St. Francis in two of the three phases of the game, but their special teams cost them two touchdowns.
La Salle coach Russell Gordon knows they’ll have to clean up penalties and open big holes for running back Amon Milliler if they’re to have any chances against Cathedral (6-0, 1-0).
Milliner leads the area with 1,293 yards rushing and 15 TD runs.
Jake Caan has been consistent all year and has thrown for 1,000 yards, including 9 TD passes.
On those rare plays where Milliner doesn’t touch the ball, Caan and his favorite target, Harrison MacDonald (22 catches, 443 yards, 6 TDs) need to have a big night.
“They are very talented and very quick,” La Salle coach Russell Gordon said. “Jamire Calvin is the best receiver we’ll see all year, so we’ll need to do our best to contain him. We want to win the time of possession battle.”
Cathedral quarterback Andrew Tovar has thrown for just under 1,400 yards and 14 touchdown passes.
Jamire Calvin 44 catches for 775 yards and 9 TDs, while Arex Flemings has 429 yards receiving on 45 catches and 7 TDs.
“We have to stay focused and be confident in what we’re doing this week,” Harrison MacDonald said when asked for a key to victory on Friday.
