The head football coach at USC returns to address an expected large Pasadena Quarterbacks crowd, after a head coaching absence of some eight years. Pete Carroll was the last Trojan head coach to speak, in 2007, and had so for 4 years in a row.

The 44-year old Helton has been at USC since 2010. Last year his team was co-champion of the Pac-12 South division, and earned a berth in the Pac-12 Championship Game. He was named the 2015 Los Angeles Sports Council Coach of the Year.

He joined the USC staff as the quarterbacks coach. He added the passing game coordinator title in 2012, and became the offensive coordinator in 2013.

Helton began his coaching career at Duke in 1995, then moved on to Houston, his alma mater for 3 seasons. He next spent 10 years at Memphis.
He prepped at Clements High in Sugar Land, Texas. Helton played his college ball first at Auburn for two years, and then at the University of Houston. While at Houston, he played quarterback, and was captain in 1994 as a senior.

Helton earned his bachelor’s degree in mathematics and interdisciplinary science from Houston in 1994. He and his wife Angela have 3 children.

Joining Helton on the podium, preceding his talk, is Steve Bogan, Maranatha High head football coach. Bogan is expected to bring a co-captain or two. Quarterbacks donate to the high school football program whose head coach speaks, and to the National Football Foundation.

Following Helton for the Quarterbacks program at next Friday’s luncheon is Mike Lombardi, FOX broadcaster for the NFL. This particular meeting will be at the Rose Bowl, Loge Lounge, Terry Donahue Pavilion.
