La Salle was still coming down from its high of winning its first Angelus League game in 13 tries.
It’s 16-14 victory over St. Paul Friday night gave the Lancers their first win in nearly three years in that league, and a much-needed shot in the arm.
But when the newest CIF-SS Division 9 poll was released on Monday morning, La Salle (5-3 overall, 1-2 in league) dropped from No. 8 in the rankings to No. 10.
And yet two teams ahead of them in the new poll had lost a game that week.
There must be some mistake, right?
Yes, there was.
According to the CIF-SS Director of Communications, Thom Simmons, they got word that St. Paul had won the game, and that was precisely the reason the Lancers fell in the poll.
Simmons said no one (from either St. Paul or La Salle) had alerted them that a mistake had been made.
La Salle athletics director, Anthony Harris, said will follow up with CIF today and hopes to rectify the situation.
The Lancers play in a league against Division 3 and Division 4 teams, so if they’re able to weather their tough regular-season schedule and make the playoffs, a run in the Division 9 bracket would be likely.
La Salle will host Harvard-Westlake on Friday, and will go in as favorites against the last-place Wolverines.
