Freshman Alexa Lauinger (Ortonville, Mich. / Brandon) continued her recent resurgence with an eight-kill, 10-dig effort in a Caltech volleyball defeat at No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Tuesday night.
Lauinger committed just a single attacking error as she hit a season-high .219 in a SCIAC match, while classmate Lauren Li (Bellaire, Texas / Bellaire) also reached double digits in digs (10) and rookie Ellie Walker (Minneapolis, Minn. / Blake School) tallied 12 assists on the Beavers’ 14 kills.
The hosts jumped out to a 10-3 lead in the first set and traded points with the Beavers until winning, 25-14. CMS rode a 15-4 run in the second set to win, 25-10, and separated from Caltech for good after a 14-9 lead in the third, scoring 11 of the final 13 points to clinch the match.
Head Coach Tom Gardner and the Beavers contest their final away match of the season at Occidental College (9-14 overall, 5-9 SCIAC) on Friday, Oct. 28.
