It’s been a while since Poly’s football program has been tested.

The Panthers are 8-0 and have cruised through the first two months of their schedule.

Rio Hondo Prep (5-2, 1-0) will put up a tough test on Friday night.

And even if no one else will say it, we will.

If Poly wins on the road, they will win the Prep League championship.

The offense has not only been on fire of late, they’ve also been very balanced.

The defense has been so good, they’re actually scoring touchdowns, as is the Poly special teams.

Poly quarterback John Genske is on a torrid pace over the last month and they’ll need him to continue his stellar play.

Christian Henderson, Brady Carter and the running game will also carry much of the offensive load.

Stephen Santizo leads Rio Hondo Prep with just under 800 yards rushing and 8 TD runs.

Poly coach Chris Schmoke: “We need a total team effort. Rio Hondo Prep has become much more balanced on offense than in recent years, and they can run and throw the ball effectively. Their quarterback (Mikey Tsgot) is a dual-threat who we need to contain. Their running back (Stephen Santizo) has good wheels and we will need to keep him in check as well. We’re looking forward to continuing what is becoming a good rivalry.”
