All season, the Pasadena City College women’s volleyball team had worked on getting better at hitting efficiency and attack accuracy. The Lancers can look back at some matches where attack errors may have been some of the differences a couple of close losses. On Friday, the attack was picture perfect v. Los Angeles Harbor as the Lancers swung an impressive, season-best .493 in a 25-11, 25-15, 25-9, South Coast Conference crossover sweep at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium.

The Lancers (13-8 overall) had huge performances from their middle blockers as Lania Potter was a perfect a 9-for-9 (1.000) on kills/attempts and Chyna Peeler was 8-for-9 (.889) on kills and added five block assists. Outside hitter Rayleen Rivera was 10-for-16 (.500, two errors) and OH Paige Clingaman led the team in kills with 11 and a .269, which on most nights would be a strong attack ratio. Vanessa Lopez was 6-for-11 (.455, one error).

“We had just seven attack errors in three sets, and really can’t get any better than that,” said PCC head coach Mike Terrill. “We work on things in practice, but to perform in any match v. any opponent like this is a big achievement. Our setter did a great job of distributing the ball to the open hitter and our middles were mistake-free. The team knows we can be very good when we work hard and execute on offense.”

Setter Emily Leung dished out 34 assists, served three aces and added three block assists.

The Lancers lost to state No. 19-ranked Long Beach in four sets, 25-20, 25-19, 22-25, 25-17, on Tuesday in a road match. Rivera scored 16 kills, 13 digs and served three aces. Libero Michelle Boyd had a sound match and made 19 digs.

On Wednesday, Nov. 2, the Lancers begin the second round of SCC North Division play by hosting Rio Hondo. Game time is 6 p.m. at the HP Gym.
