Any concerns that Westridge might come out tight in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 4 playoffs was put to rest early.
The Tigers swept Royal, 25-12, 25-11, 25-15, and now travel to Hacienda Heights Thursday night.
Westridge will face a Los Altos team that beat Diamond Bar on Tuesday.
Allison Martinez had 16 kills and 7 digs in a balanced Tigers attack.
Junior outside hitter Makana Meyer added 12 kills, 6 digs and 2 aces.
Eryn Boken was solid with 6 kills and 4 aces.
Angelica Raymundo’s 34 assists paced Westridge.
Makana Meyer: “I think that we performed really well today. We came in with a game plan, played as a team, and everyone on the court contributed to this win. I think this win will give us a lot of confidence. Personally, I get momentum serving, which I think will prove to be really important later on in CIF.”
Westridge coach Otto Lacayo was happy after the win, but was already preparing and looking forward to Los Altos.
“The team played great tonight. We executed our game plan and got in rhythm early,” Lacayo said. “Our serving was particularly aggressive. I think that was our best showing in that category to date. I’m really proud of the team but come tomorrow, we’re back to work on prepping for Thursday’s match at Los Altos.”
