Maranatha didn’t get a generic first round match up in the CIF-SS Division 5 playoffs.

The Minutemen, after finishing in third place in the Olympic League traveled to 213 miles to take on an Eagles team that was in the Division 3 finals last season.

Despite the long drive and the talent on the other side, Maranatha coach Eli Cuenca saw his girls battle valiantly before losing in four games.

Templeton knocked off the Minutemen, 31-33, 26-24, 25-22, 25-23 Tuesday night.

Maranatha’s star Mikaela Ashworth senior played up to even her stellar reputation.

Ashworth had 24 kills and 10 digs in her final game for the Minutemen.

Hannach Beckler added 13 kills and Lauren Ramirez chipped in with 15 digs and an ace.

Tiffany Godley also played big, with 5 kills, 10 digs, 2 blocks and 4 aces.

“Templeton was in the finals of Division 3 last year, and was not a typical first round match,” Maranatha coach Eli Cuenca said. “Mikaela had a great match and we certainly had our opportunities. This time, we fell short, but I am proud of our effort and proud of my players. They were great.”
