They had an up-and-down season, did Marshall.

But after the highs and lows, Marshall coach Scott Faer saw his program reach heights the school hasn’t seen since George W. Bush was still in his first term.

Andrew Kanamu rushed for 140 yards on 23 carries, including two touchdown runs to lead Marshall to a 23-8 Mission Valley League victory over Rosemead.

The Eagles hadn’t been at the .500 mark since 2004, and with the win, Marshall improved to 6-4, despite injuries and suspensions and other drama coaches and programs go through.

“I am so proud our players played a complete game. They would not be denied,” Faer said. “They played with so much heart and made their head coach proud. Three yards and a cloud of dust (is the Marshall team motto).”

Eli Acosta had a phenomenal game on defense with 5 sacks of the Rosemead quarterback.

Kanamu finished the season with just under 900 yards rushing and 9 touchdowns, including an 8.5 yards per-carry average.

“This night couldn’t have happened without my excellent offensive line, and even better coaching,” Kanamu said.

Final Mission Valley League Standings:
Arroyo (9-1 overall, 6-0 in league)
South El Monte (9-1, 5-1)
El Monte (6-4, 4-2)
Marshall (6-4, 3-3)
Rosemead (2-8, 2-4)
Mountain View (3-7, 1-5)
Gabrielino (2-8, 0-6)
