La Salle has had a remarkable season.

The Lancers won two more Angelus League games than the last two years combined.

They could have secured a playoff spot Friday at Salesian.

But for the second time in the last month, the Lancers were shut out.

Salesian’s ability to keep Amon Milliner out of the end zone led to a Mustangs 28-7 victory.

The Lancers finished in a 3-way tie for third place with St. Paul and Salesian.

Late Friday night, a coin toss couldn’t have gone worse.

St. Paul, in the playoff pairings, will be the Angelus League’s No. 3 seed, Salesian will finish fourth and La Salle fifth.

That means the Lancers will have to sweat it out until Sunday when the brackets are released to see if their season continues.

Milliner did run for 139 yards on 30 carries, but he, as mentioned, did not score.

Milliner, however, was able to go over the 2,000 rushing mark.

Jake Caan struggled, going 4 of 16 for 52 yards, and an interception.

Conventional wisdom would be that a Division 9 team (La Salle), ranked No. 6 in the CIF polls for that division, would get a spot in the postseason.

And especially because the rest of the Angelus League schools are in Divisions 4 or 5, which means La Salle played arguably much tougher competition than anyone in the Division 9 polls.

But for now, its a wait-and-see mission in the next 36 hours.

Final Angelus League Standings:
Cathedral (10-0 overall, 5-0 in league)
St. Francis (9-1, 4-1)
Salesian (6-4, 2-3)
La Salle (6-4, 2-3)
St. Paul (4-6, 2-3)
Harvard-Westlake (3-7, 0-5)
