Accomplishment: McConnell continued his stellar play in the Panthers 23-15 victory over Pacifica of Garden Grove Friday night in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 10 playoffs. The senior defensive back picked off Pacifica quarterback Ben Johnson three times and even brought one back for a 20-yard, pick-six. McConnell, as coach Chris Schmoke said, also had “a ton of big tackles and break-ups,” too. Poly (11-0) will get Aquinas (9-2) in the quarterfinal round. The Panthers have now outscored their opponents 383-84.
