When La Salle looks back on Friday night’s season-ending loss to visiting Silverado, the Lancers will have plenty of things they’ll wish they had back.

And while there were too many personal fouls, a few missed tackles and squandered opportunities, La Salle battled a high-powered offense till the end.

Silverado, behind its star quarterback, Levi Taylor, was just too good, and the Hawks held off the Lancers, 46-41, in the CIF-SS Division 9 quarterfinals Friday night.

Taylor threw two TD passes and ran for three more. He now has a combined 49 scores on the season.

Taylor has thrown for 37 TD passes and rushed for 12, including runs of 34, 1 and 5 yards Friday night..

He also threw scoring strikes of 15 yards to Trevon Clark and a 66-yarder to Daniel Dexter.

La Salle’s Amon Milliner ended his prep career with 191 yards on 37 carries, including two TD runs.

Milliner finished an epic senior season with 2,406 yards and 25 TD runs.

La Salle (7-5) led for most of the night, but Dionzae Nolan’s 2-yard TD run with 20.9 seconds to play turned out to be the difference.

Silverado (10-2) took its first lead of the second half on Taylor’s 66-yard score to Dexter with 2:16 to play.

And just when it looked like it was the end for La Salle, Dante Coxsum took the ensuing kickoff 79 yards for the score, and a 41-40 lead after the 2-point conversion failed.

But Silverado’s Damarea Dunnigan changed the momentum back instantly, with a 48-yard kickoff return to give the Hawks solid field position on their last drive of the game.

With just 20 seconds to play, La Salle only got three plays off, and any hope of a miracle were dashed when Lancers quarterback Jake Caan was sacked to end the game.

Caan finished 11 of 18 for 97 yards and one TD pass.

Harrison MacDonald caught 6 passes for 80 yards, including a 33-yard score from Tommy Radle late in the second quarter.

AJ Akobian rushed for 91 yards on 11 carries.

Akobian lined up behind center on a short-yardage situation and he ended up taking the ‘keeper’ 50 yards for a Lancers touchdown.

Said La Salle coach Russell Gordon: “They have a high-octane offense, and they connected on a few balls. They are pretty damn good on offense.
I thought we played our butts off. We put 41 points on the scoreboard and left everything on the field. We didn’t do anything bad. My hat is off to them (Silverado).”
