Defensive tackle Daeqwan Bailey was one of four Pasadena City College football players to be selected to the 2016 SCFA All-Metro League First Team.

Bailey, a 6-foot-3, 295-pound freshman from Sanderson High (North Carolina), was joined by frosh wide receiver/kick returner Yusef Muhammad, sophomore safety Kendell Jefferson, and freshman punter/kicker Enrique Lozano.

Bailey was the Lancers team MVP as he led the squad in overall tackles with 61, becoming the first PCC lineman to ever lead his team in tackles since the statistic was officially kept starting in 1993. He made a team-high five sacks, 15.5 tackles overall behind the line of scrimmage, blocked three kicks and broke up three passes. He was a 3-time SCFA Defensive Player of the Week award winner.

Muhammad, from Potomac High, Maryland, was chosen as the league’s top kick returner as he led the Metro with 23 returns for a 25.3 yards average, including a 91-yard TD. He was also PCC’s leading receiver with 30 catches for 384 yards and four touchdowns.

Lozano, a product of Montebello High, was another key player for PCC as he punted 57 times for a league-best 36.1 yards average. He landed 13 kicks inside the 20-yard line. As a kicker, he was PCC’s top scorer with 47 points. He made 26-for-27 on extra points and was 7-for-12 on field goal attempts. He was especially outstanding on kickoffs as he drilled 12 for touchbacks and numerous others that were returned from inside the 5.

The letterman Jefferson (Gladstone HS) made 45 tackles, broke up five passes and led PCC in interceptions with three.

PCC also placed four players on the All-Metro League Second Team in first-year tight end Jordan Bruner (Palo Verde High, Nevada, 27 receptions, 323 yards), frosh running back James Shaw (South Gate High, led PCC with 569 yards in 103 carries, 5.5 average per carry, and five TDs), rookie inside linebacker Jasper Chavez (Rosemead, made 60 tackles with three sacks), and 6-2, 275-pound freshman, pass-rushing, defensive end Quentin Asberry (Heritage High, 26 tackles, 2.5 sacks).
