As fear of rain dissipated, the San Gabriel Mountains glowed beautifully. It was the best backdrop for Flintridge Prep’s first Homecoming celebration on its home campus in 21 years.
The action-packed day began with a pep rally that honored all the fall teams, with high-energy performances by the Hip Hop Club, the Cheer and Dance Squad and the powder puff cheerleaders. There was also a fierce (and hilarious) competition in the form of a life-size Hungry Hungry Hippos tournament with a team for each grade level and two faculty teams.
Following the pep rally, the junior and senior girls squared off in a spirited powder puff football game. Both teams showed strong collaboration, having had only a handful of practices together prior to the matchup. They also had support from the sidelines, where the boys football team helped encourage and call plays for the two teams. The boys’ cheerleading section, complete with pompoms, kept spirits high and entertained the crowd with a half-time dance routine. In the end, the junior girls upset the seniors with the first junior win in several years.
Following the girls’ competition, JV football endured a tough match against Faith Baptist High School. They couldn’t sustain the momentum to overtake their opponents, and the game ended in a lopsided final tally. The cheer squad and audience gave their support throughout, however, and the team showed strong effort and Rebel resilience.
