From STAFF REPORTS

In just its third game of the season, Poly had to take on defending Prep League champion Westridge on Monday afternoon.

And despite an epic 7-goal performance from the Tigers Georgia Bogle, Poly was able to hold off Westridge, 9-8, to improve to 3-0 on the young season.

Colleen Woo, Talie Wilmans and Megan Kelleher all had two goals apiece for the Panthers.

Kate McInery had a match-high 9 saves for Poly and Serena Lewin had 5 for Westridge.

Poly coach Ryan Katsuyama: “Needless to say, this was a big victory for us. Westridge beat us handily last year, so for us to be able to pickup an early victory over the defending league champs gives us a lot of momentum heading into the Los Altos Tournament this coming weekend. So far, we’re 3-0 on the season and that includes wins over higher divisional teams – Westridge (D3) and South Pasadena (D4). In today’s game with Westridge, it was a genuine team effort on both ends of the pool – we had balanced scoring from 6 different players…Kate McInerny had a great game in goal, picking up 9 saves on the day…Morgan Shafia had a critical shot block on Kira O’Donnell in the final seconds of the game when Westridge had a 6-on-5 advantage…that sealed the victory for us!”
