The Maranatha girls soccer team headed into Olympic League play having lost three consecutive games and four of their last five.
But the Minutemen broke out Tuesday night in their league opener by dominating visiting Whittier Christian throughout.
Maranatha cruised by the Heralds, 5-0, and have an early spot atop the league standings with Cerritos Valley Christian.
Kin Spencer’s goal 9 minutes into the game set the tone and the Minutemen were able to close as impressively as they began Tuesday’s game.
Spencer also scored the Minutemen’s second goal to give Maranatha a 2-0 lead.
Emily Rajewski then scored in the 34th minute, Lexi Philips in the 61st minute and Katy Coats closed out the deal with a goal in the 71st.
Natalie Malijian shut out the Heralds in goal for Maranatha.
Maranatha will travel to Heritage Christian next Tuesday at 2:30.
