Sophie Schleifer was in the right place at the right time Saturday afternoon in Poly’s 2-0 victory over then first-place Flintridge Prep on Saturday at the schools ‘Winter Tailgate’ day.
Cayla McFarlane took a shot on Prep goalie Lindsey Uteda in the 35th minute.
Uteda was able to block McFarlane’s shot, but Schleifer was right there to knock it in for the 1-0 lead.
Maggie Jameson scored Poly’s second goal nearly midway through the second half and goalie Isabel Ball did the rest.
Ball held a Prep offense that was averaging nearly 4 goals per game scoreless.
She blocked 11 Rebels’ shots and helped Poly pull into essentially a dead heat with Prep.
Prep (14-3-3, 3-1-1) will travel to Mayfield on Wednesday at 3:15.
Poly won’t play again for 11 days when they travel to Mayfield on Jan. 26 at 3:30
The Panthers will spend the week studying for and taking their final exams.
