Even though Poly’s “Fall Tailgate” will be a tough act to follow, Saturday looks to be an exciting day on campus.

Four months ago, Poly had hundreds of students/fans on campus for a football game, girls volleyball tournament and boys water polo match.

All were playing at the same time and you could get to each event in less than 30 seconds, because the gym, football field and pool are within 20 steps of the other.

This time around, the Panthers get to highlight its boys basketball, girls soccer and girls water polo teams.

Poly senior John Genske is one of the few athletes who can say he played in both tailgates this year.

Genske was the quarterback of Panthers, who back on Sept. 3., helped lead Poly to a 28-14 victory over Brentwood.

This time around, Genske will be playing guard for the Panthers basketball team tonight (Saturday) against The Webb Schools at 6.

“The tailgate is fun every year because all the sports teams get a great turnout of students, who come out and support,” Genske said. “Hosting the tailgate on a Saturday is really great as well, because we see a lot more fans coming to cheer. It’s a great time for the student body to practice some of their cheers in preparation for our game against Prep as well!”

All three Poly teams playing Saturday are in contention for Prep League championships.

Poly’s boys basketball team is in first place, the girls water polo team is running away with the Prep League race, and the girls soccer team can pull within a game of first-place Flintridge Prep when they host the Rebels at 1 p.m.

So, quality of play will not be lacking at any of the events.

The tailgate begins at 11 a.m.

Schedule:
Girls soccer: Flintridge Prep at Poly at 1
Boys hoops: The Webb Schools at Poly at 6 p.m.
Girls Water Polo: Keppel at Poly at 1
