La Salle was the lone Pasadena area school playing on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The Lancers wisely took part in the MLK Showcase in Riverside Monday afternoon, as they prepare themselves for the final month of the regular season.
La Salle (11-7 overall, 2-0 in league) currently find itself tied in first place with Bishop Amat (15-3, 2-0), with four weeks to play.
Jaice Gardner led the Lancers with 16 points in a game that saw Highland hold just a 1-point lead after the first (11-10), second (20-19) and a 35-34 lead heading into the final quarter.
The Bulldogs of Palmdale, though, outscored La Salle, by 4 points in the final period and held on to a 58-53 victory.
Kenneth Franklin added 15 for La Salle and Darius Henderson chipped in with 11.
La Salle will travel to St. Genevieve on Wednesday at 7, with the hopes of staying even with Bishop Amat atop the Camino Real League standings.
The Lancers were close out the week on Friday when they host St. Anthony of Long Beach (13-5, 1-1) at 7.
