From Staff Reports
Flintridge Prep clinched at least a share of their fourth consecutive Prep League title after defeating Mayfield, 61-33.
The Rebels will almost certainly clinch the outright title Friday night when they host Poly.
Renae Tamura led Prep with 19 points, while Taylor Yoshida had 15 and Kaitlyn Chen chipped in with 14 points.
The defending CIF champs are currently on a 13-game win streak.
Malayan Domingo led Mayfield with 9.
The balance offensively is something fifth-year coach Kevin Kiyomura is very proud of.
“The difficult part for teams is you can’t take one (Flintridge Prep) player out and impair our whole team. We have others who will get things going,” he said. “We are trying to get our other players ready if any of the stars is not feeling well or not playing well.”
Poly and Prep will tip off at 6 Friday night before the boys showdown.
When asked what he most wants to see his program improve upon, Kiyomura said:
“We need to clean up some of our turnovers. Sometimes I feel like our turnovers are unforced. We’re trying to get our players to work on things within the system.”
