It might not have been the outright Olympic League title they were looking for, but Maranatha heads into the playoffs a league champion.

The Minutemen defeated Village Christian, 56-43, Thursday evening to claim their share of the crown.

Chris Austin had 22 points and 13 rebounds.

Sean Espinosa added 15 points, 4 assists and 4 steals, and Jesse Elrod chipped in with 11 points, 8 rebounds and he blocked 2 shots.

Maranatha shares the title with Heritage Christian after the Minutemen and the Warriors split their two league match ups.

How close were Maranatha and Heritage Christian in those two games?

The Warriors scored 114 points and the Minutemen 113 combined in their two games.

Maranatha defeated Heritage Christian, 63-58, on Jan. 17, and the Warriors earned a 56-50 victory on Tuesday.

“We are happy to be co-champs, but we wanted to have the league title to ourselves,” Maranatha senior Sean Espinosa said. “Going into the playoffs, we are excited about what we can do, and believe that we can make a legitimate run at a ring.”
